Project Overview
When a Sacramento property management company needed to clear the former headquarters of Sacramento Republic FC, it called M&D Hauling. The project involved clearing 15,000 square feet of upstairs office space so it could be prepared for the next commercial tenant.
The office contained heavy furniture, metal cubicles, filing cabinets, and bulky shelving. Because the building’s small elevator could not accommodate many of the larger items, our crew dismantled them onsite and carried much of the material down the stairs by hand. By the end of the 6.5-day project, we had removed more than 17 tons of material.
The Challenge
The 15,000-square-foot office was located on the second floor, and many of the desks, filing cabinets, shelving units, and metal cubicle frames were too large for the building’s small elevator. Our crew also had to work around nearby businesses while meeting a firm turnover deadline.
Over 6.5 days, our crew climbed a combined 413 flights of stairs and walked 45 miles while dismantling and removing the office contents.
Our Solution
We organized the project around safe dismantling, staged removal, and efficient sorting. Bulky desks, cabinets, shelving, and cubicle components were taken apart onsite, carried downstairs, and separated for recycling or proper disposal. After the office was cleared, we completed a final sweep so the space was ready for turnover.

Environmental Impact
Of the 35,496 pounds removed during this project, 27,156 pounds—approximately 77%—was recycled. Recyclable material included metal cubicle frames, filing cabinets, shelving, and other office fixtures.
Separating these materials reduced the amount sent to the landfill, saved approximately $1,100 in disposal fees, and generated about $1,600 in scrap value.
